Students will create a personal brand website using GoDaddy’s website builder to reflect their mission, core values, identity, career interests, and digital citizenship. This curriculum blends HTML coding, digital media, and personal growth through the Control-R framework.
“The Digital You” – A Web Adventure with Ms. Rivera & Coach Ross
In a buzzing media lab tucked inside SMARTNet lab, Ms. Rivera, a vibrant design mentor with a flair for style and self-expression, and Coach Ross, a tech-savvy motivator with deep roots in the neighborhood, launched a challenge that would shape how teens see themselves—and how the world sees them.
“The world is online,” Ms. Rivera said, adjusting her glasses. “It’s time we show up, stand out, and speak our truth.”
“And we’ll do it our way,” Coach Ross added, “using code, creativity, and a little courage.”
We are introducing you to a mission to complete a Personal Branding Portfolio of your life:
Build a personal brand website that reflects who you are, where you’re going, and what you believe in.
But there was a twist—no real photos.
Instead, students would create and customize their own digital avatars to represent themselves on the site. This would protect their privacy while encouraging visual creativity and identity expression.
In order to reach great heights, you have to understand what you want to be in life and go after it. Whether you want to be an athlete, businessperson, or doctor, you have to put in the work. Success doesn’t come from just dreaming—it comes from planning, preparing, and showing up every day with purpose.
This website is your first step in building that future. Own your story, build your brand, and never let fear stop you from becoming who you’re meant to be.” – Coach Ross
Personal Mission Statement
Use this Template to complete your Personal Mission Statement.
Personal Mission Statement. Template:
"My mission is to [describe your primary goal or purpose]. I am committed to [mention your key strengths and how you will use them] to [describe the positive impact you want to have]. My dedication to [list your core values] will guide my actions every day. I strive to [mention any additional aspirations or impacts]. Through my work, I aim to [describe the long-term impact you hope to achieve and how you want to inspire others]."
Identifying your passion in life means discovering what truly excites and motivates you—something you enjoy doing, care deeply about, and feel fulfilled by. It’s often the activity or cause that makes you feel most alive, where your interests, talents, and values come together.
Passion gives you direction and purpose, helping you understand what kind of work or impact you want to have in the world.
Your core value is the belief or principle that matters most to you—it helps guide your decisions, shape your behavior, and define who you are. When you understand your core value, you’re able to recognize what truly motivates you and why you react the way you do in certain situations. It’s like having a compass that helps you stay true to yourself, even when life gets challenging.
Knowing your core value can help you make choices that match your goals, build stronger relationships, and feel more confident about who you are becoming.
My Style Portfolio is a creative project where students design a personal collage that represents their unique style, interests, and identity.
Using images, words, colors, and symbols from magazines or online sources, students visually express who they are, what they love, and how they see themselves in the world.
This portfolio is a fun and reflective way to explore personal taste, values, and inspiration—helping students better understand their individuality and how it connects to their goals and passions.
My Next Moves is a goal-setting activity that helps students think about the steps they want to take in their personal, academic, and career journey. Students reflect on where they are now and where they want to be, then outline clear, actionable goals to move forward.
Whether it’s learning a new skill, joining a club, applying for a job, or exploring a future career, this activity encourages students to take ownership of their path and make intentional choices that support their growth and success.
My Dreams in Life is a reflective exercise that encourages students to think big and imagine the future they truly want. It’s a chance to explore hopes, ambitions, and the kind of life they envision for themselves—whether that includes a dream career, places they want to travel, people they want to help, or personal goals they want to achieve.
By putting their dreams into words or images, students begin to build a vision that inspires them to stay focused, work hard, and believe in what’s possible.
People I Inspired is a powerful reflection that helps students recognize the positive impact they’ve had on others.
Whether it’s encouraging a friend, helping a sibling, or leading by example, this activity allows students to think about the moments when their actions or words made a difference.
It builds confidence, reinforces their ability to lead and uplift others, and reminds them that even small acts of kindness or courage can leave a lasting impression.
My Most Proudest Moments is a self-reflection activity where students look back on the experiences that made them feel confident, accomplished, and proud. These moments could be big achievements or small personal victories—like overcoming a fear, helping someone in need, or finishing a tough project.
By identifying what made these moments meaningful, students learn to value their growth, recognize their strengths, and build a positive sense of self-worth that motivates future success.
Reflective journaling is the practice of writing down your thoughts, experiences, and feelings to gain insights and self-awareness. It involves regularly documenting reflections on personal experiences, emotions, and reactions to various events or situations.
The process encourages deep thinking and self-examination, helping individuals to better understand their thoughts, behaviors, and motivations.
